games for me and you
📌 So you want to become a Game Developer? Whether your goal is to self publish games, create a portfolio so you can land a job at Bungie, or just build games for fun, the choice of your first game to build is incredibly important. 📌 Imagine you're about to embark on a trail with one bottle of water and a granola bar. You have no idea how long the trail is or where it leads. This is a lot like starting your first game. Unfortunately for us, the experience is the ultimate teacher and the vast vast majority of game developers have started projects that are never finished. 📌 This occurrence is so common in the Game Developer world, it's almost a right of passage. And it makes perfect sense. The sheer amount of work required to finish a video game can be astounding. It's common for beginners to look at their favorite games (Dota, COD, Ori), get incredibly inspired, and start planning the most EPIC game of their life. In your excitement, it can be easy to forget that these games were built by large teams of experienced game developers over a long duration of time. 📌 Please, please, start incredibly small. There is no shame in building a flappy bird clone or making several hyper-casual games (Doodle Jump). Game Development requires a wide set of skills and to become good at these skills requires practice. If you are a beginner, then please, please recognize, you need a lot of practice. 📌 Plan. Thinking about your game and your desired timeline is a must if you really want to drive the game to competition. During the development process, you'll be able to see if you're hitting your timeline goals or if feature creep is slowing you down. 🎮 I'm Miller from @mefirstgames and we make games for me and you 🔥 Check out my YOUTUBE, link in my bio ➡️ https://buff.ly/2KR21MF 💬 What was or will be your first game.
